Gen Z’s Search For Authenticity
Why #relatable has got to go
Does pure ingenuity exist?
Can we create things that are wholly original? Things that are not based or influenced by previously existing concepts or things?
As a young writer, these questions have remained at the forefront of my creative journey. They often evolve into more introspective thoughts:
Am I capable of “breaking the system” and producing avant garde material that’s not just edgy for the sake of being edgy?”
Where exactly is the intersection between my individuality and mission to convey information in an accessible, yet interesting way?”
Growing up as a Gen Z-er certainly complicates the answers to such questions. Ironic, considering this sentiment has arisen in a time where there is so much information EVERYWHERE. Too much. It really is paradoxical.
Individuality is promoted everywhere, but never substantiated by action.
“Be whatever you want to be. Express yourself.”
